Echo Park Rise up
Echo Park Rise up
A second night of demonstrations in Echo Park led to hundreds of arrests, injured journalists, and police brutality.
Activists built a vigil in solidarity with the Echo Park Lake residents who were being “swept” from their home and community by Council member Mitch O’Farrell.
Protesters were peaceful throughout the afternoon and into the evening. But LAPD showed up in force by the hundreds and escalated situations that led to about 100 protesters and about 20 journalists to be detained in a kettle for over 2 hours. All of those protesters, and some of the journalists were arrested and taken to LAPD busses.
At the same time, activists and journalists outside of the closed off streets were getting shot with “less than lethal” ammunition at point blank range.
