Resonant colors can create a harmonic ambience. Dissonant colors can create tension or intrigue. In between exists an infinity of variations. Although I have always considered myself primarily a Nature landscape photographer, my work has been shifting towards the abstract which allows much freedom of expression. Colors do not have to associate with any particular reality. I experiment with white balance to achieve colors to which I have an emotional response in aiding the image to tell a story unique to the observer. This image is part of an ongoing series entitled “A Stranger in a Strange Land”. It is, initially a macro HDR capture of paint deteriorating on rusting metal. The textures are inherent. The final colors, tonality and composition are the result of my response to the subject. My passion is to create images that are emotionally vibrant, mysterious and full of drama, creating a portal for transmuting the temporal to the empyreal.

Walter Jakubowski is a photographic artist specializing in abstract imagery that suggests a story. The story is one that the viewer creates in response to the painterly images that spark the imagination. The compositions intimate an ambience that is emotionally vibrant, mysterious and full of drama, blurring the distinction between photography and compositional poetic design. They are purely abstract, presenting rhythms of color, texture and ambiguous forms. Walter’s education was primarily in the sciences and engineering curricula. He also briefly studied Painting and Photography. Professionally he transitioned from engineering into the sphere of Industrial Design as a digital surface sculptor. Post retirement he has been able to focus on his passion, Photography. Ever since he picked up his first camera in his ‘20’s his photographic passion has always been the landscape and his visual style has evolved with expressions of the abstract culminating in his present work today.
