Lived to tell the tale
Lived to tell the tale
This picture was taken at the historic Kantale Tank, an ancient reservoir in Sri Lanka. It was a beautifully overcast day. We stopped by this lovely spot to take a break from our long journey. While admiring the stunning scenery, I noticed a Purple Heron standing motionless nearby. Fortunately, I had my camera on me and aimed to capture the heron's beauty against the tranquil water and fallen leaves.
Unexpectedly, the scene took a dramatic turn. Within moments, the heron swiftly plunged into the water, emerging with a sizable Carp speared in its long beak. The Carp fiercely struggled to free itself while the heron persisted in trying to transport it to the sandy bank. The image captured depicts the Carp's final twist just before it managed to leap back into the water, evading the heron's grasp. All the heron could do was watch as the Carp swam away, possibly contemplating its misfortune.
