Feldstudien (field studies)
Feldstudien (field studies)
In her series ‚Feldstudien‘ Jennifer Braun stages temporary sculptures in a forest clearing within shouting distance of her parents' home. Her 'outdoor photo studio' is a place of recreation and reconnection to her emotional and cultural roots. Viewers see a commercial forest, i.e. a space of use and nature shaped by human intervention.
With sparingly used art objects of unclear origin and purpose, harmonising with the surrounding colours, a consistent, subtle colour concept and surreal lighting moods, she creates images that oscillate atmospherically between fairytale forest and cathedral. Her decision to photograph the series with purely analogue means demands attentive perception of the given lighting conditions, good planning of the photo settings and technically sovereign camera handling. Each photograph in the series defines its own devotional space, silent but by no means inanimate. The giant conifers root quietly next to each other, symbolising earthy, supra-temporal serenity.
