The Realm of Oyster

The series of photographic works “The Realm of Oyster”, takes the oysters, which Macau once relied on for survival, as “archaeological” objects. Through the perspective of a low horizon and centered composition, the tiny wild oyster reefs are shaped into steep islands. With the long exposure of the camera, the endless water of the Hao River turns into a distant mist, presenting the ancient Macau that has disappeared in the tide of history, and the poetic realm of Nature and tranquility. Although this mood lies beneath the glittering surface of Macau's consumerist, gaming culture, it can be gently awakened through photography that captures the essence of the landscape, bringing the viewer an aesthetic experience that is free of impatience and back to the basics, while returning to the natural world.

Author
Wu Haozheng, a visual creator born in Suzhou, draw inspiration from nature and Chinese Buddist philosophy. He is currently perusing MA degree at the Visual Communication department of the University of Macau, majored in Photography and Digital Media Art.
His current works are based on the changes of time, and through in-depth searching for the traces left behind in nature. He explores the way of visual presentation of the “The Smallest May Hold the Largest”-style of Chinese aesthetics, constructs the realm of “Chongdan” in the Twenty-four Modes of Poetry. His goal is to recreate the ancient nature calmly hidden in the tide of the times.
