Times Square in midtown Manhattan is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, and entertainment hub that draws an estimated 50 million visitors annually. It’s a cacophony of sights, sounds, smells, and food. The enormous multistory, high-definition digital billboards are ablaze all hours of the day, advertising everything from the latest Broadway show to candy, soda, and even frozen vegetables. It is one of the world’s busiest pedestrian areas, which has been referred to as “The Crossroads of the World,” “The Center of the Universe,” and “The Great White Way.”
